Happy Making: It's a New Year!

I'll be honest, internets: I woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning, with a startled cat and a phone call from India for a wrong number, at 8AM. On a Sunday. Needless to say, I had to take a little while before "happy making" could happen. But thanks to some wonderful friends on Twitter, and some good tea in my new "Big Ben" tea pot, I'm back to feeling (almost) right as rain.

So what is making me happy this week? More episodes of The West Wing on Netflix, of course, though Season 5 isn't nearly as good as Seasons 1-3. And, thanks to a film critic coworker, I got to see Les Miserables for free (Anne Hathaway's performance of "I Dreamed a Dream" is haunting and amazing, and beautiful).

But what's making me happy this week is a movie I've been hearing about for ages but finally decided to check out last night. And boy, am I glad I did! The movie is Bernie, starring Jack Black. It's about an assistant funeral director in Carthage, TX, who befriends an old widow. I can't say more without spoiling it, but if you've spent any time in the South - particularly in Texas - you will not be able to stop laughing. It's on Netflix Instant now, so I strongly suggest checking it out.

So what's making YOU happy this week?
